The following types of Verbal Communication are used:
i) Interpersonal Communication:
This form of communication takes place between two individuals and is hence a one-on-one conversation. It may be formal or informal Examples:
- A school principal discusses the performance of students with the teachers.
- Two team members discussing a project.
- Two friends are chatting to each other over mobile/phone.
ii) Written Communication:
This form of communication uses writing words. It can be letters, reports, circulars, manuals, social media chats, SMS, etc. It can be between two persons among or more people.
Examples:
- A leave application to the manager of the company.
- Neha is writing a letter to grandfather enquiring about his health.
iii) Small-Group Communication:
This communication takes place when there are more than two people involved in a small group. Each participant can interact and converse with the other members.
Examples:
- Team meetings
- Press conferences
- Board meetings
iv) Public Communication:
This communication takes place when one individual addresses a large gathering.
Examples:
- Election campaigns initiated by political leaders
- Public speeches by dignitaries, like Prime Minister, Cabinet Minister, etc.
